The Beach & Headland
Firstly, let’s check out that beach that we keep boasting about. From Caba Break, cross the road at the crossing, it can be a busy road so please be careful, and walk down Pandanus Parade towards the Cabarita Beach Surf Lifesaving Club and the Beach Hotel Bar and Bistro.
The beach is a beautiful place to swim in the crystal-clear water, frolic in the waves, take a walk and clear your head or build a sandcastle with the kids. Remember to always swim between the flags and Slip-Slop-Slap!
Looking to your right you can see the headland and looking left gives great views up the coast to Kingscliff and Fingal Head. You can get to the headland by walking along the beach or using the track that starts in front of the pub. The track is easier if you find stairs challenging, the track still has some steps but it an easier gradient. It’s a lovely walk that takes you through littoral rainforest with commanding views of the ocean and the beach. On the headland keep an eye out for native animals and birds. This is a top spot for whale watching between June & November each year and dolphins are very common all year round.
Surfing
Cabarita Beach is an exposed point break that usually has waves. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the ideal swell direction is from the southeast. Best around mid-tide and it is likely to be crowded if working. Winter is the optimum time of year for surfing here. The best wind direction is from the west southwest. Take care of rips, rocks and sharks. If you’re not familiar with the surf break, stop in and get some advice from Col at his Cabarita Surf Shop.
Fishing
If you’re into fishing, be it beach, rock or estuary fishing then there are plenty of beautiful spots to throw a line in. You may need a recreational fishing licence to fish in NSW. Check the rules at Service NSW where you can buy a licence online or pick one up from local agents nearby at the BP Hastings Point or the IGA in Salt Village. Pottsville Beach is home to the annual Lions Greenback Fishing Comp.
Cycling
Looking for a little more exercise? go for a bike ride. If you didn’t bring your own bike, you can hire them across the road from Caba Break at Cabarita Cycles. Follow the bike path to head north to visit Casuarina, Salt and Kingscliff or go as far as Fingal Head. Head south to visit Hastings Point and Pottsville North map / South map.
Food!
After all that exercise you must be hungry, Caba has plenty of options and cuisines to choose from. Right next door to Caba Break is Caba Social, a favourite of the locals for breakfast and lunch. Carol and Jamie are super welcoming and Jess makes your coffee your way.
The Caba Bakehouse and Pizza is just next door to Caba Social offering the usual bakery fare, good pies and salad rolls. Treat yourself to something creamy (I can strongly recommend the apple turnover). They are usually open ‘til 8pm so you can grab a pizza if you’re still hungry later on.
Another favourite of ours for breakfast, lunch or dinner is the Pandanus Café. You’ll find them down by the beach under the surf club with a great view of the beach. Enjoy a wine or beer with a delicious, fresh meal but don’t forget to check the specials board before deciding. On the weekend you can enjoy a meal, also provided by the Pandanus team, from the surf club’s deck overlooking the ocean.
If you’re looking to liven up your evening then Marty’s at Caba is just down the street, just north of Woolies, with live entertainment 5 nights per week. Check out the menu here, our favourite is the tapas selection. The iconic Cabarita Beach Hotel serves lunch and dinner in the bistro, with live music every Sunday afternoon. Enjoy a cold bevvy next to the beach, have a punt on the TAB, a flutter on the pokies or challenge your friends to a game of pool.
The Coffee Club is close by for breakfast and lunch offering a wide menu, I enjoy their fresh made juice and the scrambled eggs are prepared just how I like them.
Take a stroll to the northern edge of Caba where you’ll find three lovely businesses, The Stunned Mullet, Kartel Espresso Bar and The Corner Collective.
The Stunned Mullet may look like your average fish and chippery, but don’t be fooled, it’s an award-winning cafè. The menu abounds with a lovely fish selection, house-made potato scallops, fresh salads, burgers and fish tacos. They pride themselves on their unique menu which is all cooked and prepared in house. With so many options you are bound to find a healthy meal here.
Kartel is an espresso bar that packs a punch. It’s a hole in the wall coffee shop that serves good, strong, well-made coffee for the coffee lover. If coffee is not your thing, you can grab a tea along with cakes, muffins & more.
At The Corner Collective you’ll find a fusion of boho clothing and coastal homewares. Known to locals as the place to pick up that special something, this tiny space is filled to the brim with fashion, homewares and loads of plants, pots and hangers, you’ll be sure to find something special to take home with you.
As you stroll back to the centre of the village, you’ll notice a few more coffee houses, fast food outlets and restaurants including Mediterranean, Thai and Japanese cuisines, no wonder Cabarita Beach is popular with day trippers and holiday makers.
Pamper Time!
Is it time to pamper yourself with a holistic and wellness treatment, a facial, manicure and pedicure? Then there are a few salons that will meet your particular wishes. Need a massage?, visit Sun’s Massage or have your hair done at Station Hair or Cabarita Barber Shop.
Retail Therapy
For some retail therapy, visit some of the lovely boutique shops that dot the main drag and surrounding laneways, Caba does not have any of the shopping mall chain stores so you are assured of finding some unique gifts for yourself, friends or family.

For the younger kids, The Adventure Club, specialises in beautiful toys, puzzles and art and craft supplies and projects. They are at the southern end of the village near the Caba Bakehouse and Pizza. There are several other retail shops I’ll leave for you to discover.
For your convenience while enjoying your break, Cabarita Beach has everything else you need to assure your stay is all that you deserve. A supermarket and two quality butchers, bottleshop, newsagent and post office, doctors and a pharmacy along with picnic areas with free BBQs.
Prepare to be tempted to become a local or for Cabarita Beach to become your regular home away from home.
